Derek is a 1996 graduate of Syracuse University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He began his career with Peterson Engineering P.C. in 1995 as a student intern, serving as an Owner’s Field Representative on district steam and building renovation projects. Since then, he has contributed to a broad range of civil, site work, HVAC, and plant design projects. In 2006, Derek was named Vice President of the Firm.
In December 2022, Derek was appointed President of Peterson Guadagnolo Consulting Engineers PC Derek is responsible for the civil engineering services provided by the Firm as well as duties as the Firm's president.
Derek is an active member of several professional organizations, including the International District Energy Association (IDEA), the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), and the American Water Works Association (AWWA). He is also a LEED Accredited Professional.
