Internships are more than just a learning experience, they’re an opportunity to gain hands-on industry knowledge and contribute to meaningful projects. We’re proud to support the next generation of engineers and professionals as they grow their careers and explore the possibilities within our industry.
Hi, I’m Nick! I’ll be entering my senior year as a Mechanical Engineering student at Clarkson University this fall. I grew up in Baldwinsville, NY. Outside of school and work, I enjoy staying active by going to the gym and spending time outdoors fishing and boating. During the winter, you can usually find me ice fishing or snowmobiling.
This is my first summer with Trivium, and it has been an incredible learning experience that has introduced me to the consulting engineering industry. From the early design phases through construction, I’ve had the opportunity to see how projects develop and evolve. Working here has also allowed me to contribute to a wide variety of projects and gain experience in many aspects of engineering.
Throughout the summer, I have assisted with several projects, including helping to upgrade older fuel oil furnaces and boilers to high-efficiency natural gas systems. As part of this work, I participated in site visits to take measurements and meet with clients to discuss design solutions. I also used AutoCAD to develop drawings of both the existing and proposed mechanical systems. In addition, I contributed to projects involving AutoCAD elevation heat map development, research of New York State building codes, and updating mechanical and fire protection details to improve the firm’s drafting standards and organization.
My internship with Trivium has provided valuable experience and strengthened my understanding of consulting engineering. From field work and client interactions to CAD design and code research, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from such a knowledgeable team and continue growing as a future engineer. Thank you to everyone at Trivium for making this such a rewarding summer experience!
Hi, I’m Helaina! I am a recent graduate of Le Moyne College where I earned my bachelor’s in physics pre-engineering. Currently, I am a graduate student in Syracuse University’s Civil Engineering program. I am from north of Syracuse near the Tug Hill region, so naturally, I love the outdoors and all that comes with it. In my free time, I love visiting the Adirondacks or just spending time with my dogs.
This is my first summer with the firm. This summer, I have had the opportunity of working with the civil group as a site representative. In my time here, I have helped with several different projects ranging from steam line relocation and replacements to site utility projects. Every day on site is different from the next so there is always something new to learn!
A typical day for me involves visiting several of our different sites, many of which are around the Syracuse University campus. Some major projects I have been involved in include the C-line steam replacement near the two new dorms on Waverly and Comstock Ave., A-line steam replacement near Steele Hall, and the D-line steam relocation down near the I-81 Project. Whether it be a concrete pour, pipe pressure test, inspecting insulation or using the GPS, you will generally always find me on one of the sites!
Overall, I have had a wonderful experience getting to know the team and learning all the different aspects involved in civil site projects at a consulting firm!
Hi, I’m Thalia! I’m a recent graduate of Syracuse University’s Aerospace Engineering program and a current graduate student in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. I’m originally from the Pittsburgh area, but lately, I’ve spent most of my time here in Syracuse. Outside of school and work, I love watching movies and exploring all that the Finger Lakes have to offer!
Every day looks different for me! This is my second summer with the firm, and I’ve had the opportunity to see the many moving parts that make a consulting firm work. I’ve contributed to a variety of projects across different areas of the company.
My first major project was helping update the company’s database from a 30-year-old software system to Microsoft Access. It was a major undertaking that took up much of my time last summer: from migrating data and building the user interface to training everyone on how to use the new system. I now help organize our weekly project meetings using the database I built, and who knows, maybe it’ll be around for another few decades!
More recently, I’ve been helping with the firm’s latest rebrand by organizing contact lists and creating social media posts. Throughout it all, I’ve also had the chance to assist with a variety of engineering projects. I’ve spent time on the roof at Le Moyne assessing their generator, at Cornell taking photos to support accurate construction drawings, in Newhouse at Syracuse checking electrical panels, and even in our office analyzing smoke dampers for the Dome!
No two days are the same, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep learning and gain a better understanding of everything that goes into making a consulting firm successful!
Hi, I’m Ryan. I’m a mechanical engineering student at Binghamton University entering my senior year this fall. Outside of work and school, I enjoy fishing and playing basketball. I’ve been with the firm for two summers and have had the opportunity to gain experience on both the mechanical and civil sides of the office.
During my first summer with the firm, I worked as a site representative for the civil department. In that role, I witnessed hydrostatic pressure tests, collected GPS data for new and existing utilities, and completed field inventory work. This experience helped me learn valuable information outside of my primary discipline and build connections with contractors from companies outside the firm.
This past winter, I transitioned to the mechanical department, where I gained CAD experience, sat in on project meetings, and assisted with a variety of projects. Having experience from the summer made this transition smooth, as I was already familiar with interpreting drawings and the engineering process.
Continuing with the mechanical department this summer, I have assisted the team with multiple projects, including setting up CAD drawings, collecting field inventory, and helping standardize the practices we use. I feel I have been able to contribute to the team in meaningful ways despite being an intern.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to strengthen my knowledge in both civil and mechanical engineering. Each project brings something new, so I’m continually learning through the experience and building skills that will help me move into my senior year and future career.
Hello, I am Sean. I recently graduated from Tully Junior Senior High School, and I will be attending Binghamton University this coming fall to major in Electrical Engineering. I was directed to a path encompassed by the electrical world by professionals around me. This made me want to pursue a job at Trivium Engineering.
Outside of work, I enjoy fishing, landscaping, bonfires, and exploring. I grew up in Homer and am very familiar with the Syracuse area. This aspect made it very easy to transition to the job I have today.
The work I do here goes beyond what a typical intern might do for an engineering firm. Detailing, drafting, and illustrating details and diagrams in great depth are all things that I do here. What really stands out is the hands-on projects I participate in ranging from Bowers Hall fume hood controls, updates at SUNY Cortland, to Riley Hall revisions and restorations for Syracuse University, my days never look the same. That’s the way many of my peers and I like it.
The growth and opportunities that the firm offers grab my attention. The experience in this building allows me to ask a question with full confidence knowing that it will be answered correctly and thoroughly no matter what the area or instance may be. From this, a haven for growth exists that most other firms would not and cannot offer.
I can’t wait to see what my day will bring here tomorrow because I know that it will not be the same as yesterday. I hope to make this firm as successful as it can be, while also growing strong connections and relationships.
Hi, I’m Lauren. I am going into my junior year at Alfred University where I study Biomaterials Engineering. In my spare time between work and school, I am a dual-sport student athlete at Alfred where I am a part of the Women’s Soccer and Women’s Swimming and Diving teams. I also enjoy reading, hiking, and spending time with my dog.
This is my first summer with the firm, so I have been just getting used to the engineering and consulting world. Every day looks different for me. Since I am a bit outside of my area of education, I am able to pick up new skills and learn quite a lot about the moving parts that allow a firm like this to function on a daily basis.
I have been happy to assist the firm in moving through our recent rebranding by creating our new brochure and other such materials to make the change seamless and easy for both us and our clients. I have also been working on some smaller projects around the office to make our submittal and drawing creation processes easier and look the same across all projects.
This summer is all about learning for me and I am glad I get to do it here!
